Chatsworth House is the most famous attraction in the Peak District. The home of the
Dukes of Devonshire, it is a magnificent classical-style house set in a huge landscaped park.
The house has some very fine gardens, which are well worth a visit in themselves, plus a
model farm open to visitors and an adventure playground which children (and adults) rave over.
The grounds are very extensive and a good place to just go for a walk.

Haddon Hall from the River Wye
|
Haddon Hall is another famous visitor attraction within easy reach of Hartington.
This is an almost perfectly preserved medieval manor house, originally the home of the Vernon family
who were the lords of the manor for Bakewell.
Dorothy Vernon famously eloped with John Manners, the heir to the Earl of Rutland, and the hall now
belongs to the Dukes of Rutland.
